With a mix of buoy and island races, Airlie Race Week is a test of crew and navigators. Most importantly, it’s great fun! The smooth waters of the Whitsundays are a perfect spot for multihull sailors to turn up the speed: and when the spray really starts flying, you won’t freeze! What is it that brings Sportsboat sailors back to Airlie Beach year after year? The strong division? The close racing? The friendly party atmosphere? Maybe it’s being able to leave the cold-weather gear at home! Held during the best time of year in the tropical north, the warm waters and stunning backdrop of the Whitsunday Islands make Airlie Race Week a great place to escape the Winter! The dates for Airlie Beach Race Week 2014 are from August 8 to 15. Join in on the 25th anniversary celebrations this year.
Each year the Whitsunday Triathlon Club hosts the Airlie Beach Triathlon. Participants can choose between the traditional Sprint distance race (750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run), the new Enticer Race (300m swim, 10km cycle and 2.5km run) or a team in either race! The Whitsunday Triathlon Club’s first triathlon was so successful that it is now an annual event and acclaimed as the best triathlon in North Queensland, attracting competitors from all states.
